Umida is without a doubt the most compassionate teacher I've had the pleasure of learning from. I might be a bit biased since she was my teacher for 10+ years, but she was able to convince an 8-year-old me who was about to drop piano to continue perfecting my craft. Here I am 10 years later, with numerous national and international accolades under my belt.
Umida's teaching is, simply put, infectious. Her love for music is contagious, and as her student, it definitely infected me. She taught me the profound respect that a piece deserves. The multitude of classes devoted purely to working on single line or bar of music instilled within me a respect for the extremely complex intricacies of a piece. I learned pretty early on that mastering a piece extended well beyond the ability to perform it without mistakes. Rather than being put aback by the daunting task of mastering a piece, though, Umida's lessons always left me excited to practice and hone the pointers she gave in class.
Over the years, Umida cultivated within me not only a wide portfolio of different pieces, but also a sense of how beautiful music can be. The time management and work ethic I've learned from consistently playing piano under Umida has also proved invaluable in other areas of my life. I really owe my current musical sense and love to Umida, and for that, I am forever grateful for her mentorship.
